Background of the Project/ Challenge
An initiative to catalyze the energy transition of SEA via unlocking transition finance for the decarbonization of select corporates. This includes helping the target corporates with formulating their decarbonization strategy and net zero ambitions while also matching global investors to fund these via labeled debt.
What We Did
- Stakeholder engagements with corporates, ranging from those looking to start their decarbonization journey to those with clear plans seeking low-cost capital
- Synthesizing findings from the interviews with key trends in labeled debt to further enhance the SEA sustainable finance market
Outcome
- Formal launch of the Transition-Southeast Asia (T-SEA) partnership with the Anthropocene Fixed Income Institute (AFII)
- Soft market sounding for the select corporates with their potential labeled debt issuances

“I want to emphasize that achieving sustainable energy access in off-grid areas is not merely an option, rather, it is an essential step for building resilient communities and ensuring social equity. This pursuit requires the collective effort of stakeholders across various sectors to make it into a reality.”
Mario Marasigan

“This project builds on momentum generated by the Department of Energy leadership towards a more ambitious climate goal and complements the government’s work in transitioning the Philippines towards cleaner sources of energy. It also helps ensure that our off-grid islands are not left behind and are given access to more affordable, reliable, and cleaner electricity.”
